USMA Works with Summit Motorsports Park to help Keep the Lights On; Mitigation Meeting Produces Positive Direction for Light Pole Issue

Summit Motorsports Park is one of the premier drag strips in America hosting more than 500,000 fans per year for sportsman and professional drag racing.  The track provides millions of dollars in economic benefits to the region and the many businesses and organizations that benefit from the track.  An initial ruling from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) ordered three of the tracks light poles to be removed due to being near a small county airport.

After the track began a community outreach effort and USMA intervention a meeting was held in an attempt to mitigate the issue. Since the meeting Summit Motorsports Park and ODOT have agreed to work together funding a study that will look at all possible options.  The track took immediate steps after the meeting to add reflective striping and red light beacons on the poles.  The USMA supported Summit Motorsports Park with navigating the sometimes complex world of government along with general consulting and guidance through the process.

"There in no question in my mind that our favorable outcome with ODOT was a direct result of USMA's involvement. Their support was invaluable!" stated Bill Bader, Jr., Summit Motorsports Park President.

“I also appreciate the amount of time ODOT officials spent looking at our situation, and they made it clear that they are not in the business of closing businesses or impeding economic development, so we're working together to find a win-win solution.  "The outpouring of support from the community, our racers and fan base was nothing short of miraculous. Our collective voices were heard.”
